Business Recorder IQBAL MIRZA KARACHI: All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) has offered internship to the agriculture graduates of Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam with leading exporters so that young graduates could attain practical knowledge of industry (fruits and vegetables). PFVA would further bear cost of one student pursuing his/her PhD programme. An MoU to this effect was signed between PFVA and SAU which establishes the guidelines for collaboration between the two organisations in Research and Development (R&D) and exchange of information related to fruits, vegetables and value added products during the visit of PFVA delegation to SAU on Sept 10. They have mutually agreed to the following: SAU-Tandojam: will share its research findings related to fruits and vegetables on regular basis so that the exporters of PFVA remain abreast of R&D carried by SAU, Tandojam. - Will provide guidance, support and technical assistance to PFVA as and when required. - Will conduct training workshops for exporters of PFVA as and when requested by them. The logic arrangement and other expenses incurred on conducting such workshops would be borne by PFVA. The venue would be decided with mutual consent. - Will share its research work on value addition related to mango, apples and other fruits. - Will conduct awareness programme for growers and exporters together as and when requested by PFVA, and - Will provide technical support, guidance and assistance for the establishment of R&D labs by PFVA in various cities of Pakistan. PFVA: would facilitate internship to the agriculture graduates of SAU, Tandojam with leading exporters so that the young graduates could attain practical knowledge of the industry (fruits and vegetables). - Would bear cost of one student of SAU perusing his/her PhD programme. - Would give first priority in extending employment opportunity to the graduates of SAU, Tandojam as and when any vacancy is available for such graduates. - Would assist SAU, Tandojam in projecting its research work on fruits and vegetables in print and electronic media as and when required. - Research work carried out by SAU Tandojam will be highlighted by PFVA through its official website for the benefit of horticulture industry of Pakistan, and - The research work carried out by the University on fruits and vegetables would be projected in print/electronic media by PFVA. The MoU is at will and may be modified with the mutual consent of the authorised individuals of PFVA and SAU, Tandojam. Once signed by authorised officials of both organisations, will be effective from September 10, 2013 and remain in effect until further instructions. The MoU was signed by Waheed Ahmed, Chairman and Muhammad Ilyas, Secretary of PFVA respectively and Dr A Q Mughal, vice-chancellor and Dr Kazi Suleman Memon, Co-ordinator (projects and programmes), SAU, Tandojam on behalf of their organisations.
