Business rates backlog runs on Business rates expert Paul Turner-Mitchell, through FoI requests, has found that George Osborne is to miss his target to clear a backlog of business rates appeals. While nearly 79,000 cases have been referred to the Valuation Tribunal Service since April, and 21,000 cases currently have a hearing date, over the past four years just 14,000 cases have actually been heard. Separately, a senior partner at Deloitte, tax policy head Bill Dodwell, has warned that the government is not currently in a position to announce a reform of business rates as part of its Autumn Statement.
