But its the Truth! We might think that if it is the truth it is ours to say in every time and place. But this is not always true. Of course we do not lie or say false things. Neither are we overly flattering or superficial. But our speaking the truth is governed by a greater principle to do no harm and to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Martin Luther teaches us to defend one another, speak well if one another, and explain everything in the kindest way. And Ephesians 4:29 says, Say only those things that edify others and build them up in their faith. To say to an obese person You are fat may be true but it is not kind or edifying. Here is my rules of thumb: If you are critiquing someone, criticizing, correcting, or directing it should be face to face, in private, and for the purpose of restoration. If you are affirming and encouraging-- shout it from the mountains, FB, and for all to hear! Love you! Say something good today!
