But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.--Romans 13:14 Adding rules and regulations to your life will not help you to stop giving in to temptation. Chances are that the more rules you have, the more likely you will be to succumb to temptation. The law gives strength to sin (1 Corinthians 15:56). This is why it is important to continually remind yourself of the finished work of Jesus Christ. Become immersed in the knowledge of His perfect fulfillment of the Law on your behalf. The more you focus on Jesus, the less likely you will be to give in to temptation. Each and every morning, when you wake, don’t give yourself a list of things you don’t want to do for the day. Don’t say, “Today I’m not going to _______.” Instead, remind yourself that you are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. Focus on all of His perfection instead of your imperfections. The word for “put on” (endyo) actually means “sink into”. Picture yourself completely surrounded by the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Remind your mind that He has finished the work for you; He has taken your sin to the cross. The more you focus on Him and what He’s done, the less you’ll sin and give in to your natural “lusts”. When you focus on the finished work of Jesus Christ, life becomes all about what He has done and not about what you are trying not to do. By simply knowing that you are clothed in His righteousness you are making no provision for the flesh. It’s not a matter of rules and regulations; it’s all about Jesus. So sink into the righteousness of Christ. Know that His perfection is your eternal covering. Remind yourself that, no matter what, God sees you through the finished work of Jesus Christ; in His eyes you are forever righteous. Believe right; live righteously. Have a blessed, loved, and highly favored day!
