Read : John 1:1 That which was from the beginning which we have heard,which we have seen with our eyes which we have looked upon,and our hands have handled,of theWord of life; This the General Epistle of John FirstJohn is the first letter written by the Apostle John.It differs inpurpose from his Gospel account or his book of the Revelation,but the style is obviously similar John does not specify the recipient for whom the letter was written.His purpose in writing the letter was confront the false teaching of those who did not believe that Jesus was the Christ or that Christ came in the flesh. False teachers,whom John calls antichrist,were spreading the heresy the holy living was not necessary for salvation.They taught that there was no need for separation from sin and the wickedness of the world in order to obtain Gods grace.Johns goal was clear;he wrote to diffuse the bad doctrine of the false teachers.He also wrote to challenge believers to pursue a pure and holy lifestyle as their faith remained firm in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Savior. The importance of what a person believes and how he lives is significant in Johns letter John confirms that there is no fence to ride between holiness and sin.The letter is unique in ascribing the title of advocate to Jesus This means that He goes to His Father in our defense when we sin Our advocate makes our miracle of salvation and deliverance from sin a reality.
