But the bible declares that it is much closer than that. The bible says that we are living in the last days of human history right before the start of two world-changing events. The first event that will change the world is known as the Rapture of the Church of Jesus Christ. The bible says it will go like this: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (KJV) This will be a time of unbelievable rejoicing for those of us who are saved, and a time of overwhelming fear and confusion for those who will be left behind. The even which follows the Rapture is known in the bible as the ‘time of Jacob’s trouble’, or the Great Tribulation: “Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.” Jeremiah 30:7 (KJV)
