But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren. Acts 14:2. We still have the same thing today in the church world. There are people who because of their own agenda and jealousy will do anything to turn people away from those who are helping them. Notice the word poisoned in this verse. I call this emotional and spiritual defilement. The word defilement means: to make dirty or unclean, to pollute. This is done through everything from subtle suggestions to outright lies about someone. Thats what Satan did in the Garden of Eden with Eve. He defiled her by suggesting that God was keeping something from them, that God didnt really love them and finally he called God a liar. When people defile other people today they are doing the work of Satan. Dont allow anyone to dump thier garbage on your mind and spirit. Keep your heart pure from emotional and spiritual defilement. If it sounds like garbage, if it looks like garbage, if it smells like garbage...well, its probably garbage, no matter who is delivering it.
