But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. Psalm 3:3 Any early childhood educator will tell you that the way to communicate with children is not to hover over them and talk down to the tops of their heads, thats too intimidating and they will shut you out. If you really want to get through to kids it is better to physically get down on their level and look them in the eyes. Eye to eye contact suggests a connection, it strengthens the communication, it makes them feel safe. This is especially important to do when the child is sad and their face is downcast. When you continue to lovingly and firmly communicate with a child by looking them in the face, they will eventually lift their heads to look you in the face. Think about that - love lifts heads. When we show genuine love to others it will lift their heads. When you speak love into the life of a child, they will look up to you. When you speak loving words to your spouse, they will stop what they are doing and look at you. When you speak love to your friends it will cause them to pause and turn towards you. Almighty God loves us with an everlasting love. He sent His only Son to this earth to get down on our level and look us in the face to say it. If you are downcast this morning, if you feel like no one understands you. Be encouraged, God loves you my friend! If you will believe that, He will lift your head!
