Buy a photograph and support Kalap Trust! --- Do you want to own a photograph of a place and a community which has never been photographed before? Quite rare, isnt it? This was the start of what made working at Kalap special. The first call for support was to document this unique place and its people. It has been one year now, and the collective effort has ensured the beginning of a trove of content that the community can treasure. One of the first objectives of this effort was that the community, the villagers, start to take pride in their home. Working in the Himalayas you will see a lot of negativity in local communities simply because of the harshness of life there. They often are not able look beyond that. We did not know our village is this beautiful, was the first reaction, when the first photographs of the village was seen through our lenses. This has today gone beyond verbal appreciation, you now will hear villagers say: Dont throw garbage there, it will spoil the beauty of the photographs. Solid waste management is a challenge, and today photography is playing a small role in it! Where do you start when you are at a place that has never been photographed before? That was the biggest challenge. It helped that everyone who went there was trigger happy! Today we have an archive that captures the moods of the village in every season and the people in different facets of life. The people who have worked at the village as documenters are: Yatish Vt, Deeptangan Pant, Prathap Nair and myself, during my course of the work there. They spent their own money to travel, live and work in the village. This was a unique experience for me personally, working with different photographers, giving space to their creative urges and then finally curating their work. And it is a continuous process, as I will continue to be photo-documenting in the village and as will everyone who works there. Today we invite you to be a part of this story and contribute. The project has expanded with Kalap Trust. The photographs are now going to give back to the community. We are selling some of them to support Kalap Trusts activities (details at tinyurl/ne9clkn). They are available framed. 2. 12x16 Gift Print -- Rs 5,000 (including shipping anywhere in India) These prints are in Epson archival quality matte paper. These are not framed. 3. 12x16 Premium Signed Prints -- Rs 10,000 (excluding shipping and insurance) These are prints on Hahnemuhle archival paper. Each print is signed in hand by the respective photographer. These are signed prints, of which only 5 of each photograph are on sale. The prints will feature hand-made wooden frames, a choice of which is available. (Width/height of some photos might be slightly lesser because of aspect ratio) HOW TO ORDER? 1. Go through the album. 2. Read the caption for the photos code number. 3. For the Gift Prints, make a FULL payment to our bank account. Send us the acknowledgement with the code number of the photograph. Dont forget your shipping address. 4. For the Premium Signed Prints, make a payment of Rs 6,000 with the code number of the photograph.
