Buy all means a little candor: This goal of electoral victory, however, is not necessarily shared by voters. While they often support one candidate over another during the course of a campaign, what they mainly want is detailed information about where those running for elective office stand on different issues. Mr. Finleys legal dust ups have been brought out by establishment Republicans, so I guess old Russ thinks what goes around comes around. Mayor Jeff Graham, Wtertown, NY This editorial really made me put my thinking cap on and ask some questions about the NY-21 Congressional campaign. I agree with the WDT that the publics right to know who their voting for trumps a caniddtes need to remain secretive about issues or their past private lives. I also agree with Mayopr Graham that a candidate needs to be thoroughly vetted. So why isnt that happening in the current Congressional race? Republican challenger Elise Stefanik seems to be the exception on the Mayors blog, when it comes to having herself thoroughly vetted, and frankly Im suprised that the WDT hasnt been a bit more probing in investigating what makes Elise Stefanik run for office and what her private life has been about to date. Frankly I have never seen a candidate run for major office without one word printed on who she dates. Who she has had a long term relationship with in her college, or since shes left school and entered the real World. Why? It seems Democrat Aaron Woolf and his family were put under the media microscope, but Elise Stefanik has run without even going on the record about who she dates, or if she dates and for how long. Is she able to point to one long standing stable relationship that shes maintained in her young life. Well shes not in her 20s anymore and it seems like there should be one person that the press can interview who knows her on a personal and intimate level at this stage of her life. Ms. Elise Stefanik doesnt like to answer questions about ending the Medicare system we now enjoy, but instead she seems hell bent on running from reporters with her support of the Rep. Ryan budget plan that would turn Medicare into a voucher system. She uses vague terms to discribe what her plans are for modernizing medicare, or extending the age to qualify for Social Security. For example, is Elise Stefanik going to support Rep. Paul Ryan to string the age Americans qualify for Social Security out to 70 years of age? Oddly the Mayor of Watertown whose blog is filled with gossip about everyone and everything, especially when he was being invited to Matt Dohenys Island home, has been strangely silent about Elise Stefaniks love interest, or lack therein of and that really stands out to me like a sore thumb. Yes I support Candor from candidates and I would like Ms. Stefanik to display some and stop running as some shadow GOP cutout and at least let us know who the love interest in her life is, or was in the past and maybe hear what they say about spending private time with Ms. Stefanik. Elise may think thats an invasion of her privacy, but as a voter I want to know how well rounded she is in public and private life?
