State institutions are significant food buyers, and harnessing this purchase power in support of local and regionally-sourced food is the focus of this webinar. The webinar will provide an overview of state law and policy in each of the New England states, and the New York food metrics statute. Presenters will discuss various policy approaches, including whether New England states might consider a tiered procurement preference, allowing them to prefer food sourced from within the state and then from within the region. Presenters include Cris Coffin with American Farmland Trust, Abbey Willard with the VT Agency of Agriculture, and Emily Broad Leib with the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic.
