Buying into myths about your metabolism could make it harder to reach your health and fitness goals. Life by Daily Burn reported Dec. 5 on five metabolism fables you need to ignore, including: - Thin people have higher metabolisms: in fact, thin people almost always have lower resting metabolisms than heavy people. As one researcher put it, “there is literally less of them to burn while at rest.” If you want a higher metabolism, build muscle, which burns more calories than fat. - Skipping a meal slows your metabolism: What really matters is the quality and quantity of food you eat, not how often you eat. I personally believe that meal spacing is important. - Late-night meals are metabolized slower, leading to weight gain: Again, it really comes down to whether what you are eating is healthy and how much you eat, not when you eat it. Again, my personal opinion is that you shouldnt eat late at night. - Metabolism is all about breaking down the food you eat and burning calories: That’s just half of the process. The other includes storage of energy for future use, which is equally important. - You have no control over your metabolism: Actually there’s a lot you can do to affect metabolism, including getting enough sleep, drinking more water, consuming caffeinated drinks, and eating enough protein.
