By Arun Koul Aam Aadmi Party? It came into being riding on support for an anti-corruption platform built by Anna. Anna saw his as a peoples movement to clean the polity and not as a vehicle for political glory and power for self. At some point Kejriwal hijacked the platform and Aam Aadmi was blinded enough not to see this as a coup. The lines are now clearly drawn and those with Kejriwal have clearly distanced from those with Anna. Kejriwal and his coterie are directly accusing Annas people of motives (refer Kejriwals rant against Kiran Bedi) as they are being asked honest questions about their own conduct in politics and power. If this is how Kejriwal feels about Anna, why did he plant himself in the movement in the first place? Frankly, I question the political space that AAP is trying to occupy. It is slotting itself as a mostly leftist populist, somewhat anarchist/ disruptionist group in a city setting. This is no different from what Laloo did in Bihar in his ascent to power, Mayawati in U.P, Mulayam in U.P, Mamata in Bengal, only difference being that they did it in a regional setting. How have these named leaders changed the politics of the country? You might say that Kejriwal is more educated than the others. But have you actually looked at and compared the qualifications of the individual candidates for the job at hand, which is to lead and govern? Have you compared their individual ideologies and actions for the nation? And then, why would we put only some doctors and engineers on the pedestal of educated? Has India not changed enough in the past 2 decades, where we can recognize that intelligent people can excel in other areas? If a person is to be a great actor, does he or she need to train as a great surgeon first? Consider now, how the AAP team works to solve problems of the city? They take to vigilante and anarchist/ disruptionist actions. They warn of another Dharna. Referendum is advocated as a solution for anything and everything. People are advised to steal electricity and supplies. Foreign resident women are pre-judged and made to undergo urine testing by the roadside. I shudder to think what would be the ramifications if in the U.K, U.S.A. UAE, wherever the Indian diaspora is, Indians are isolated for the reason of their looks and culture, intimidated and abused by lawmakers, without the process of law. As you think of it more, you may conclude that the AAP lawmakers do not believe in the process of law! To understand the AAP style of functioning better, consider, AAP voice mail which says, We are not available to govern right now. We are either on a Dharna, on the way to a Dharna and finding a Dharna to go to. Let us talk about the name Aam Aadmi Party. Frankly, why would you name a good party with a vision Aam Aadmi Party? Would you buy a toothpaste named Aam Toothpaste? We are being sold a dud, a fuski and we are buying it! The reason India has shown some economic progress is because individual aspirations for growth and achievement transformed into a collective national aspiration. Aam people aspired to grow and become Khaas. Many people actually improved their situations and became Khaas in their own way. Why would you want to change that by turning to leftism? We could state the actual problems and find solutions to those. Besides other problems of national and societal importance, a major problem is that with the growth in opportunity came the unprecedented growth in corruption. To hide their corruption, scams and nepotism some leaders and parties resorted to empty slogans alongwith creating regional, caste and community based voter divisions. There is a solution to this problem and the other ones facing the nation but it is not the leftist, disruptionist Aam Aadmi Party. Aam Aadmi Party was a belief and still is to some people. However, belief is not the same as knowledge or a fact. Beliefs can and should change based on knowledge and facts. AAP was not proven and is still not proven. Yet, they want to sell the Fuski to the nation just right now. I am not buying it. Are you?
