By Augustine Adah Senior Correspondent , Lagos There is growing anxiety among the people of Kogi State over the continuous absence of the state governor , Idris Wada, who has gone for medical treatment abroad. The people are worried that the governor , who was away to India for the treatment of mental related illness , also left the state some days ago for another treatment . According to a political leader , who pleaded anonymity told Sunday Independent that the governor has to be flown outside the country immediately when they noticed an abnormal behaviour in him at a PDP programme in Abuja. “ Every body was surprised to see the governor laughing uncontrollably when a speech was going and clapping after ,” he said. According to investigation by Sunday Independent , the latest incident happened after he allegedly slapped his former Chief of Staff in Lokoja. The PDP in the state appears confused over what to do if the health condition does not improve . Already , secret meetings and consultations are going in Lokoja , the capital of the state on the possible way out if the health challenge persists . Some leaders from Kogi -West are looking at a possible situation where the Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, may be asked to take over as governor, according to constitutional provision . Awoniyi, the son of a foremost politician in the state, Sunday Awoniyi, who died some years ago , has been representing the governor on several occasions and may be in position to handle the affairs of the state. A member of PDP from Omala local government areas , who does not want his name mentioned in the press told Sunday independent that the case of Wada’ s mental illness is not a new thing . He said the situation has been there before he became the governor . “ It is not that the people that brought him did not know about it , his coming as governor was to execute a mission for personal gain ,” he said. All effort to get the comment of the governor’ s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy , Jacob Edi, proved abortive as several calls made to his GSM phone went on diversion .
