By Bunmi Awoyemi PRESIDENT JONATHAN INHERITED AN EXCELLENT POWER TRANSFORMATION ROAD MAP FROM THE OBASANJO REGIME BUT FAILED IN HIS EXECUTION OF THE ROAD MAP. President Jonathan bungled the PHCN privatization process. Those that were chosen as preferred bidders and who eventually bought the different PHCN assets made up of DISCOS and GENCOS were GEJ fronts, cronies and some powerful power brokers GEJ wanted to settle because of his reelection bid. They dont have pedigree in power generation and distribution. Now the government wants to bail them out with monies generated from tariffs imposed on us.Jonathan said that he has privatized in one breath and in another breath he is granting a bail out to the same people the PHCN assets were sold to. When you criticize the poor level of power supply which averages 1 hour per day in most parts of Nigeria, they tell you that the criticism is unfair because the PHCN assets are now in the firm grip of the private sector, yet they are bailing out the same private sector. Dont forget that they donated N2b as a group to the N21b GEJ reelection fund. Talk about quid pro quo - The N750 per month fixed charge you pay whether you have electricity or not is part of the quid pro quo policy. They had to donate N2b to ensure that the national cake stays available to them to cut and share as they like. One of them bought the humongous NITEL and all its assets for around $250m. At this rate Jonathan will collect billions of dollars from the world bank and use the National Assembly Buildings, Federal Secretariat Buildings housing the MDAs and Aso Rock as collateral. This is a Presidency that practices and celebrates corruption and has elevated corruption to an official state policy. Let us not forget what President Jonathan said at his campaign rally in Enugu. How much did Jim Nwobodo steal? Money that cannot even buy a Peugeot Car. Yet Buhari sent him to jail. Is that fair? In another campaign rally President Jonathan said that he does not believe in sending people to jail for corruption. If you dont want another four years of this impunity, make sure you get your PVC and vote President Jonathan out of office on the 14th day of Febuhari 2015. It is just 27 days from today. At this stage you have read enough material to help you make an informed decision. You dont need any Pastor, Prophet or Imam to tell you who to vote for.
