By Christie Southern Fallin says she supports option of having special session Gov. Mary Fallin said Wednesday she is discussing the possibility of a special session with House and Senate leadership to pass a lawsuit reform bill, after a Supreme Court ruling in June invalidated the state’s civil justice reform bill signed in 2009. Fallin said that a special session is an option she is considering but did not fully commit to the idea. Fallin said concerns from the business community initiated the discussions on a special session. “We’re hearing a lot from the business community that this is a big impediment to attracting jobs and expanding jobs and doing business in our state because it was one of major reforms that Oklahoma has highlighted throughout the years,” she said. “When other businesses in the state and in the nation see us rolling back through a big Supreme Court decision like that, it’s a major issue to job retention and job creation in our state.” Fallin said the Legislature may consider other subjects other than tort reform but she wants to keep a narrow field of discussion, if a special session were to occur. Other topics up for consideration include the challenge to a tax reform and Capitol repairs bill passed earlier this year. She said inclusion of an expansion of the Insure Oklahoma health insurance program are remote.
