By DICK FRIDLEY The Oelwein Huskies placed in five events Monday, as they hosted a nine-team boys’ track invitational. Cedar Falls came away with the overall team crown, tallying 178 points. West Delaware had 140 points, followed by Sumner-Fredericksburg 116 1/2, Union 85, Central Elkader 61, West Central 37, Independence 37, Starmont 26 1/2 and Oelwein 11. Devin Bender claimed sixth place for the Huskies in the high jump, clearing 5-2. Oelwein also was sixth in the 400-meter relay in 49.31. Taking sevenths for the Huskies were the 1600-meter relay in 4:05.72 and Damon DeGraw in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.21. Oelwein was eighth in the 800-meter relay with a 1:47.79 clocking. Cougar highlights Josh Arens came away with two victories for the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars, winning the 400-meter dash (53.49) and the 400-meter hurdles (58.61). Cameron Schult’s 2:08.88 time was good for second-place in the 800-meter run, while Kyser Allen also earned second place in the shot put at 43-7 1/2. Conner Schult was third in the 1600-meter run in 5:13.54. The Cougars also had three relays finish third — the 800 meters in 1:38.55, the 1600 meters in 3:43.61 and the shuttle hurdle in 1:06.11. Taking fourths for the Cougars were Cal Seehase in the 200-meter dash in 23.69, Cameron Schult in the 400-meter dash in 55.74, Jacob Hoth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.13, Tyler Bunce in the 3200-meter run in 11:42.17, Laken Fritz in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.76 and the 400-meter relay in 46.47. Seehase (11.65 in the 100-meter dash), Conner Schult (2:12.88 in the 800-meter run), the 3200-meter relay (9:22.82) and the distance medley relay (4:16.53) earned fifths for S-F. Mitchel Tehel was sixth in the long jump at 17-5. Will Hambly was seventh in the 3200-meter run in 12:18.59, while Andrew O’Brien was seventh in the discus at 106-9. Bryce Elliott was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 24.65 and tied for eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.77. Keegan Wiedrin was eighth in the long jump at 17-0 1/2, while Ty Bergman was eighth in the shot put at 39-4. West Central highlights James Niemann was the individual leader for West Central, finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.42, fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.59 and fifth in the long jump at 17-11 3/4. Joe Wolfe was fourth in the high jump at 5-6 and seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.75. Sam Annis placed fifth in the high jump at 5-4 and sixth in the 400-meter dash in 56.42. The Blue Devils were fourth in the distance medley relay in 4:11.97 and seventh in the 400-meter relay in 49.71. Mustang highlights Jake Crawford of Independence finished third in the 3200-meter run with his time of 10:50.08. Taking fifths for the Mustangs were Nicholas Holt in the 400-meter dash in 55.96, the 400-meter relay in 48.43 and the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:15.65. Sixth place Independence finishers were Jack Gorman in the 100-meter dash in 11.74, Crawford in the 800-meter run in 2:15.99, the 3200-meter relay in 10:01.83 and the distance medley relay in 4:26.56. Garnering sevenths were Gorman in the 200-meter dash in 24.45 and the 800-meter relay in 1:47.56. Eighth place finishers were Jacob Schwarting in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.70, Alek Norris in the discus in 106-4 and the 1600-meter relay in 4:24.25. Star highlights Starmont ran 9:04.23 to earn fourth place in the 3200-meter relay. The Stars were sixth in three other relays — the 800 meters in 1:44.07, the 1600 meters in 3:53.86 and the shuttle hurdle in 1:18.69. Russell Manternach’s 12:11.12 time was good for sixth in the 3200-meter run. Placing seventh were Weslee Gould in the 1600-meter run in 5:39.08 and the distance medley relay in 4:31.32. Hunter Fletcher tied for eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.77. Also finishing eighth were Alex Duff in the 400-meter dash in 57.18, Chris Hettinger in the 800-meter run in 2:24.72, Lane Woltz in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.33, Tom Powell in the 1600-meter run in 6:09.02 and the 400-meter relay in 52.35.
