Though Christ be a Lamb, he can be angry, and the wrath of the Lamb is exceedingly dreadful; for if the Redeemer himself, who appeases the wrath of God, be our enemy, where shall we find a friend to plead for us? As men have their day of opportunity, and their seasons of grace, so God has his day of righteous wrath. It becomes us to weep and tremble for those who will not weep and tremble for themselves. Great oppressors are, in Gods account, no better than beasts of prey. Those who admire the pomp of this world, will wonder at the ruin of that pomp; which to those who know the vanity of all things here below, is no surprise. How weak and helpless, compared to God, are the most powerful of mankind! That which makes escape impossible and ruin sure, is, that God will set his eyes upon ALL THE DISOBEDIENT for evil, not for good. Wretched must those be on whom the Lord looks for evil, and not for good.
