By Faith Noah… Heb. 11:6-7 By Faith Noah… o Set himself apart from the world. (Gen. 6:2,5-6,11-12) It was sensual and superficial. (v-2) It was constantly evil in its thinking. (v-5) It was corrupt and violent. (v-11) It was indifferent to spiritual things. (Matt. 24:37-39) If you have a faith like Noah’s, it will set you apart from the world. (I Thess. 4:1-7) o Condemned the world. (Heb. 11:7) Not as a sitting judge. •By his words, his preaching. (II Pet. 2:5) •By the actions of his faithful life – his righteous example. (Jn. 15:19-20; I Tim. 4:12) “…His act of faith drew a sharp line between the evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world. As a result, Noah became intimate with God.” If we have a faith like Noah’s, by it we will render the wickedness of others even more apparent. o Obeyed God when is made no sense to the rest of the world. (Gen. 6:14) “Make thee an ark.” (450 feet long, 75 feet wide, 45 feet high, 1.5 million cubic feet of space, the capacity of 520 cattle cars, 125,000 sheep) What would it take for Noah to accomplish such a task… •A great sense of purpose. (Eccl. 12:13) •It would dominate his life. (Phil. 3:13) •It was a long-term project. (I Cor. 15:58) o Believed God’s warning. (Gen. 6:13) o Expected something that had never happened before – a universal flood that would destroy all life. (Heb. 11:7; Gen. 7:19-20; 9:14-15) o Feared a God who could not be seen with the human eye. (Jn. 1:18) As a result… •Faith is perfected by obedience. (James 2:22) •He saved his family. (Heb. 11:7) •He became the heir of righteousness by faith. (Heb. 11:7) Like Noah… o We are to live lives that are set apart from the rest of the world. (Rom. 12:1-2; I Jn. 2:15-17) o We are to believe and do what the world sees as irrational. (Isa. 55:8-9) The gospel. (Mk. 16:16) Manner of life. (I Pet. 4:4) o We expect an unprecedented event. (II Pet. 3:4-13) o We fear the unseen God. (Heb. 11:1,6) o We may become heirs of righteousness by an obedient faith. (I Pet. 3:20-21)
