By Joseph and Deborah Poggioli, Kearney On Sept. 10, the voters - TopicsExpress

By Joseph and Deborah Poggioli, Kearney On Sept. 10, the voters of the city of Kearney will have an opportunity to vote on two propositions. Proposition A pertains to the building of a much needed state-of-the-art high school. Proposition B supports building a high school swimming facility. Our son, Ryan, currently attends Kearney High School. He encouraged my wife and me to tour the high school and attend the informational meetings. We have gone on the tour, attended six meetings thus far and are dismayed at how antiquated the high school is. The lack of adequate space and overcrowding of the corridors are just some of the problems. Traffic congestion is a daily occurrence during the morning and at dismissal. We can do better than this. Our community has grown, but our high school that was built 53 years ago has not. Technology, security, heating, ventilation and air conditioning have improved substantially, and the costs associated with implementing these needed improvements to the current high school aren’t cost effective. We, as a community, are obligated to support our future leaders of this country with an educational system that is second to none. We have the academics, but we don’t have a secure and functional high school to complete the deal. How we can expect our children, grandchildren and all Kearney students to compete against other students if we don’t give them the resources that they need or should have? I urge you to attend an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 5 at KHS. Enter through the auditorium doors. You can tour the outdated high school and see the need for yourself. My wife and I will be supporting the students of Kearney by voting “yes” on Proposition A and Proposition B on Sept. 10. The students and the community will thank you for your support. I’m sure you’ll agree that Kearney Deserves Better. Joseph and Deborah Poggioli, Kearney
