By Mr Perfect Pakistani rice export to China to rise KARACHI: Pakistani rice export to China is expected to surge beyond one million metric tonne mark in coming days ahead in the wake of recent visit to the country by a 25 member delegation of rice exporters from Pakistan. The delegation led by Chela Ram K K, senior Vice Chairman Rice Exporter Association of Pakistan (REAP) undertook visit to different Chinese cities exploring new avenues for Pakistani rice. The visit, which kicked off from January 5 to 15 was anticipated to generate substantial foreign revenue in shape of enhanced export rice orders. Some of the cities the delegation visited in China included Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhongshan during the 11 days tour. Cxhela Ram said China was a very potential market for Pakistani rice and last year during July 2012 to June 2013, Pakistan exported around 500,000 metric tonnes rice to China. There stand strong hope REAP delegation visit would double existing export volume spelling immense financial benefits for all stake holders related with rice export trade. We had very interactive and fruitful meetings with Chinese concerned authorities and leading rice buyers as Chinese people like Pakistani rice due to its quality and we have also got good orders from Chinese rice buyers on trial basis during our visit, he added. After fulfilling the trial orders, we are hopeful to get orders of huge quantity of Pakistani rice in future and trade between both the friendly countries will be increase with a significant ratio. Chinese buyers require rice with good milling quality and with this opportunity, value addition in rice will increase and subsequently more employment opportunities will be available for skilled labour as well as with the support of value addition we will able to get good price of Pakistani rice. Presently, we are getting $20 premium on Vietnamese rice.
