It was shot during a collegiate judo tournament in Japan, and sharing it here is the best way to explain why it makes me smile when I here someone proclaiming he has invented something in Jiu JItsu. The judoka on the bottom has a smooth and excellent open guard game showcasing what we call today an x guard,a deep half guard and has an optimal guard recovery. Nobody invents anything. Everything we do has been already done, maybe not in the same way, or maybe not as thoroughly, but at the end of the day fighting in general is a free form of expression. Some techniques come, go and then come back with the passing of time, but till when mankind will have two arms , two legs and one head, and freedom to explore, someone will always come up with a ground-breaking new move that someone else will stumble upon seeing a video dating back 30 year back from the other side of the world. Since techniques come and go, try to focus rather on understand the concepts that underly them and develop your own form of expression, regardless of the modern or up-to date moves you see on the internet.
