By Randy Bartley BROOKVILLE — A Brookville man has been charged with attempted criminal homicide following an incident that occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27. The Brookville Police arrested Robert Alan Smith, 41, for attempted criminal homicide after he stabbed Brandon Jesberger in the neck during an altercation. Smith was also implicated in a meth lab bust four days earlier. (See accompanying story.) According to the affidavit of probable cause filed at the office of District Judge Gregory Bazylak, Brookville Police Officer Mickey Stormer met Brandon Jesberger and Angela Allshouse at the Brookville Police station on Western Avenue at 3:43 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27. Officer Stormer said he observed Jesberger with blood on the front of his neck. Jesberger told Officer Stormer he had been stabbed in the neck. According to the affidavit, Jesberger stated he and Allshouse were driving around looking for houses for rent in the vicinity of Clark Steek in Brookville. Jesberger said he turned from Richards St. onto Washington Avenue when a silver van with PA. registration JLM0473 approached the rear of Jesberger vehicle and pulled in front of Jesberger’s vehicle, stopping in front of his vehicle. Jesberger stated Smith got out of his vehicle and approached the Jesberger vehicle. Jesberger exited his vehicle and confronted Smith. Smith went to his van and returned with a knife. Jesberger told the police he was shoved and stabbed in the neck by Smith. Officer Stormer said he instructed Jesberger to go to the Brookville Hospital for treatment. Jesberger was treated at Penn Highlands Brookville and released. Brookville Police Officer Justin Miller was conducting surveillance at Smith’s residence at Lot 8, 31 Clark St. when he saw Smith and a woman, later identified as Smith’s girlfriend, Faith Hollis. Officer Miller performed a felony traffic stop on the silver van. Both were detained. When he was questioned by the police officers about the events on Pennsylvania Avenue, Smith told the police he had seen Jesberger’s blue van drive by his residence several times and wanted to know why the van kept driving by so he followed it up Richards St. and onto Washington Ave. when he had the confrontation with Jesberger. Smith said there had been some shoving between the two but nothing else had happened. Smith later admitted he had a knife which was at his residence. Brookville Police officers accompanied Smith to his residence where the gun-shaped knife was retrieved. A statement by Hollis agreed with Jesberger’s account of the incident. She told police she did not witness the stabbing. Smith was also charged with aggravated assault and other related charges. Smith was placed in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $300,000 straight bail.
