By Shawn Ashley Ivester will not seek reelection Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Tom Ivester announced Thursday he has decided not to seek another term in the Senate, becoming the third Democrat and fourth senator to announce plans not to return to the Capitol. “My wife and I have decided that it is time to pass the torch off to someone else to serve the people of Senate District 26,” Ivester, D-Sayre, said in a statement. “After prayerful consideration over the holidays we made the decision that I will not run for reelection. My time in the Oklahoma State Senate has been a tremendous experience. It is an honor to represent the great people of southwest Oklahoma.” Ivester joined the Senate in 2006 and has served as caucus chair since 2011. Two other Democrat senators – Roger Ballenger, of Okmulgee and Leader Sean Burrage, of Claremore – have announced they will not seek reelection. Sen. Rob Johnson, R-Yukon, also will not seek reelection.
