By Shawn Ashley Senate approves popular vote measure The Senate approved a measure Wednesday that would have Oklahoma participate in a popular vote compact in which the presidential candidate that receives the most votes would receive all of the participating states’ Electoral College votes. Sen. Rob Johnson, R-Kingfisher, said he was prompted to bring SB0906 because votes in smaller state like Oklahoma “don’t matter at all.” “I don’t like my constituents to be disenfranchised,” he said on the floor. SB0906, by Sen. Rob Johnson, R-Kingfisher, and Rep. Don Armes, R-Faxon, establishes the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote and states Oklahoma’s intent to join the agreement. Opponents of the measure, however, argued that it would undermine the Electoral College. The bill passed 28 to 18.
