By chance tonight I decided to watch a Comcast IN DEMAND flick. There was a lot to choose from but I had heard good things about a new film that will be playing here in San Francisco next week. That flick is “Match” starring veteran actor Patrick Stewart. It’s a Tribeca Film Festival film based on Stephen Belber’s 2004 Broadway play. He also directed this one hour and 30 minute movie Let me just say I was blown over by Patrick Stewart performance as an aging dance teacher in Manhattan. He mesmerized me with his performance. Belber’s narrative is a realist, simple living room drama. He plays a charismatic talkative person who has had an amazing dance career. Just watching his opening scenes in his favorite diner where he is charming, awkward and very nervous waiting for his two guests to arrive played beautifully by Carla Gugino and Matthew Lillard. I won’t go into too much of the plot but it involves what happen to the dancer in the period of six weeks back in the late 1960’s. The actors do an excellent job of withholding emotion and information for at least the first half of the film. Also I am surprise as how Matthew Lillard has progressed as an actor. He was the actor who was in all of those Scooby-Do movies. He has become a damn good actor as seen in the TV series “The Bridge” and now this flick. I am glad he got rid of that damn dog. I am also glad to see Carla Guigino in the film since she is damn good actress. I doubt if the movie will get much play because it is not mainstream and if you have Comcast it worth checking out or wait until it shows up on NETFLEX.
