By freeing us, Christ has made us free Christ has placed us in freedom by freeing us , stand fast therefore , and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1) Those to whom this epistle is addressed had known the freedom of the Gospel. You must have first tasted this freedom before they can be truly urged to stand firm in it. Who could tell a slave working in links stand in freedom? No, it is first necessary that he be released. It is the same spiritually. Many people do not know the freedom of the Gospel. Some are so used to be slaves of sin that they are unaware of their condition of servitude. Others have more or less aware of the miserable condition of their heart and their lives, and long to be freed from their guilt and fears. Others seem to think freedom and independence in relation to other men. Maybe they have struggled to get them, and have they found a certain extent, but they know nothing of the glorious freedom of the children of God! The Son of God came down from heaven to deliver men. He came to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prisoners prison ( Isaiah 61:1 ) . He gave His life a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). It is beautiful to see the love and selfless care of Paul, similar to Christ, to the saints in Galatia! The first time he went to preach among them, they had received him as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself. They had experienced a great blessing by means of his ministry, and he had brought so much love they have given their own eyes if it was possible! They were happy in the Lord. Christ was everything to them. But after the departure of Paul, false teachers were introduced among them, people who do not care of souls, but sought only to spread some points of false doctrines. Galatians’ Believers had received these false teachers, which made them so hard that they had come to see Paul as their enemy! How Paul act against them? Return them evil for evil? Noway. Just like his blessed Master, he sought their good, caring very little what they thought of itself as long as they thought well of Christ. He then showed them Christ the richest and most attractive way possible, so that they could find joy in the knowledge and enjoyment of His finished work. It is a great blessing to know that salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9), and that the only way to Gods blessing for the man through the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. They are worthy of pity those who seek their satisfaction that comes from the creature and not the fullness of the Creator, or , perhaps , try to attract the favor of God in any way other than accepting His infinite grace to sinners who is in the death of His beloved Son. God shows His grace to man in these words: I desire mercy and not sacrifice (Matthew 9:13, 12:7) , which clearly teaches us that the only way he can make man happy and the issue of eternal damnation is to have compassion on him in his disability and his sins, offering a perfect and eternal salvation , without money and without price (Isaiah 55:1 ) . Be convinced of this in his soul, thats freedom. This is what the Spirit of God bears witness, for where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17 ). This is enough to give full confidence and comfort, as it derives from God to the sinner. God finds his love Him toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
