By handing over lifetime contracts of leadership to the parivar and the Akalis, Hindus and Sikhs find themselves in a delicious dilemma. Hinduism is being re- defined in some vague upper caste Vedic vegetarian diet terms and Sikhism as a mainly upper caste or jat grouping. As a result millions feel left out and go to godmen or dera. Or simply convert. Unable to fight this exodus intellectually or spiritually, the parivar demands a ban on conversion and Sikhs want to come down strongly on deras. May be better to look within. Interestingly Muslims and Christians have not allowed any one religious contractor and do not see any exits from their fold.
