By most known philosophies, Love does not exist. Love is the satisfaction of ones inherent insecurity. The instinct of love many a times, is a selfish instinct meant to boost the ego. A mother will love her son because he has been formed from and by her. A brother may love his sister because she represents a similar generation version of the mother. A man will love his wife as she stands by him in times of need. And vice versa. Very few people will love for the sake of loving. When you love for the sake of loving, without any conditions, then your love becomes non specific. It is then called compassion. One can be compassionate towards everyone. Towards every animal. Many vegetarians feel compassion towards animals and refrain from killing for meat. Others are vegetarian by habit and conditioning. Many are afraid of seeing death at close quarters and therefore are vegetarian. There may be no compassion, but fear that plays a role in their eating habit. If we develop compassion then we start understanding everyone around us a little better. The world becomes a good place. We feel good. When total compassion is developed, one may also lose the fear of death. Like the great sages, who were not afraid of death and took Voluntary Death.
