By now I am sure you have read about the proposed extension of the South Shore to Dyer. The extension would start in Hammond and head south to Dyer. A total of four stops would be added, two in Hammond, one in Munster and one in Dyer. The construction cost is estimated at $570M. As our paychecks indicate, we pay a 1 - 1/2% Lake County income tax. (Which I opposed). Of that total tax, .25% is directed to economic development or CEDIT. Schererville receives a portion of those funds which is approximately $650,000. Congressman Pete Visclosky is asking that all municipalities contribute 34% of the (CEDIT) funds for a period of ten years towards the extension.
