By now many of you have seen this video and some have made comments on other boards and personal timelines. I have to admit I have heard some disheartening comments from some supposed professionals about their thoughts on this bad shoot. Some of the comments mentioned words like fear, understanding why the officer was on edge, lack of training, he is lucky (meaning the citizen) he didnt get double tapped etc. As EP agents I post this not because we make traffic stops, but because we often are tasked with giving directions to others. Also it is important to separate feeling threatened from actually being threatened. So you dont wind up being criminally charged and someone looses their life or gets seriously injured and both you and your client get sued. Remember it is not the publics responsibility to read our minds or understand our intentions. It is our responsibility to provide clarity in our communication so our thoughts or actions are not misinterpreted. What really concerns me is how people continue to try and justify the officers actions when his own department has fired him and he faces criminal charges. Those people are as dangerous as the perpetrators we desire to protect our clients from because you potentially will not see them coming. The other challenge is those people may be actively working a detail with you and get you in a fire-fight which may not have been called for because of their perceived fear. So thinking like an EP agent what are some things you may have done differently in this situation to potentially reduce the likelihood of potential harm to yourself and minimize risk for all involved? wltx/story/news/local/2014/09/24/video-released-released-of-trooper-involved-shooting/16187305/
