By now, my Houston friends have probably seen the news story re: the wreck on 59 near Westpark. Today, I came up on that accident, right after it happened. I dont know what caused it, but it was the most horrific thing Ive ever seen. I was on the frontage road beneath the accident, going to pick up the pups from the groomer. When I looked up, a fire had started due to the collision of the USPO 18 wheeler and an SUV. The SUV was pinned to the wall, and no one could get to it. There were people up top, and lots of people on the ground, many of whom were taking photos and video. I rolled down my window and amongst all the other screams of people watching, saw a woman trying to crawl out of the SUV... she was out to her waist, waving her arms and screaming for someone to help. Again, no one could get to her, but people on the frontage road were yelling to her to jump. She was on fire, and if she could have jumped, Im quite sure she would have. Im pretty sure the back half of her was pinned in the vehicle. Some were smart enough to get a mattress out of a nearby store on which she could land... but they didnt make it in time. She quit moving, and then there was an explosion. Very loud, sounds of glass and other screams... and the image of that womans face burning alive, together with her screams for help, will forever be etched in my memory. Im not sure why I happened up on that today... but I will hug my family a little tighter today, be more careful and not ever think that could never happen to me... and pray for peace for the families of those who didnt make it. There were reportedly 3 people in that SUV... and so far, theyre reporting only one fatality. I still dont think theyve gotten to the SUV... its just covered with a black tarp...
