By the end of that amazing time of singer-songwriters, 1968-1975, - TopicsExpress

By the end of that amazing time of singer-songwriters, 1968-1975, I had resigned from my teaching position in the Whittier Union High School District with the intention of playing music. Over a 10-month period from mid-74 to mid-75 in which I visited and stayed with friends and family in Balboa, Laguna Beach, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, and Chico, I visited, body surfed, played and wrote music, became reacquainted with Carolyn, and came back down to Southern California to get a job and encourage her to join me which she did in April of 75. I began working in Lovells record store in Uptown Whittier. I had been buying records there ever since I attended Whittier College (66-69), and I worked there for about two years. They took in and sold used LPs, and my record collection doubled from about a thousand to about two thousand in the year and a half that I worked there. I found several records that became highlights of my collection. The artist who I am sharing today is Tom Snow. He made three records (not counting an earlier folk-rock foray with a group called Country, an album that I also bought while working at Lovells) entitled Taking It All In Stride (1975), Tom Snow (1976), and Hungry Nights (1982), that are a treasure trove of great performances of great songs. Six years was long enough to wait for that third album, but after that, nothing. Then I began seeing his name pop up in the credits of a number of great songs by many different artists. Like Dave Loggins and Randy Sharp, he had become a singers songwriter with an amazing run of hits and covers of his songs from some of the top names in the business. Still, I think that nobody does his songs better than he does. Here is a small playlist that I put together. Unfortunately, I could only find one cut from his album Taking It All In Stride; however, Tom has a wonderful website that features complete versions of all three of his albums plus cuts from an amazing array of artists who did his songs; his blog on that same site offers many of Toms original demos as well as versions by others. He also has a terrific ReverbNation site with scores of songs. I will post the link to both of those sites in the comments on this post. https://youtube/watch?v=L_Wddwe8bjE&list=PLlIFqztndTXyPbGKbc607T53OAK-u7Ct6
