By the end of the series Im working on, I want my FMC to seem more - TopicsExpress

By the end of the series Im working on, I want my FMC to seem more mature than she did at the start of the series, but Im not sure how to display that. In the beginning shes a typical rebellious teen princess type who feels overprotected and runs away from her guards all the time. When she gets kidnapped, she deals with it by staying in one room the whole time screaming and refusing food, in spite of being encouraged to explore the palace in which she is being kept. She shows some slight maturity near the end by realizing that she is immature, but insists its just because she hasnt been given any opportunity to blossom. In the second book, she is primarily immature by insisting she be allowed to marry her kidnapper, who is the king of the kingdom to the south that usually doesnt have good relations with her kingdom. Besides the fact that he kidnapped her, its just impractical for her to marry him, but she keeps being selfish and refuses to relent. Eventually it works out, but it doesnt change that shes still immature and pretty selfish too. By the third book, that Im currently outlining, she is married to the king of the other kingdom, and is therefore the queen of the other kingdom. But she doesnt really do anything queenly at all. This story is still not very set in stone and the main conflicts are still being determined, but I want a way that she can demonstrate some maturity for once, and do something that demonstrates her being empathetic and able to give up on her selfishness for a bit. Ideas plz?
