By the number of calls we received last night and this morning it is apparent that the mass notification system advising of the power outage in Rolla caused some confusion. When the power went out, the 911 center was being bombarded from citizens wanting to report that their power was out. In an attempt to alleviate the overload of calls, the decision was made to notify citizens via the mass notification system that RMU was aware of the power outage and doing everything they could to restore it quickly. The mass notification system Everbridge is designed to alert communities quickly and efficiently of information for the well being of the citizens. If you have a phone listed in the phone directory, your number is already in the phone database. Consequently people who have not signed up did receive calls alerting them of the power outage. You can modify your notifications by creating an account on the Phelps County Emergency Alert System by following this link: https://member.everbridge.net/index/1332612387831861#/login As always - PLEASE do not call 911 or the Rolla Police Department when the power is out. Rolla Municipal Utilities will attempt to post outage information on their facebook page. The City of Rolla is set up on a grid which also allows them to see immediately areas without power. So they are already aware of any outages.
