By the purest, random coincidence I just happened to land on TCMs showing tonight of Leo McCarys Make Room for Tomorrow. For some reason Id never heard of it despite it being quite the under the radar cut classic. There was literally nothing else on and Im usually willing to give any older movie a chance as long as it isnt a Western. Fortunately I stayed long enough to get hooked and made it all the way to the incredible ending. Then I spent a good hour or more reading all the reviews on IMDB. Definitely a movie worth watching although it is rarely broadcast. A clear, level headed movie that takes on a difficult topic without any of the usual Hollywood sentimentality or blatant message delivery. This movie reveals one of the awkward realities of a real flaw in this countrys social fabric and lets you decide how you would deal with it if the two stars of the movie were your aging parents. Well worth seeing not only for the incredible performances but more for the amount of thinking and reflection it will make you do if you have any human compassion.
