Ive got my southern friend Rush Derr IV thinking about his roots now. In 2004, I went south to Alabama to research Zelda. Prompted by my high school Literature teacher back in the day because I suppose I wore short shorts to class. Since, there have been four critically acclaimed contra-factual novels written about Zelda. Mine was so abstract I put it away forever in my piano bench. The others I read were okay. They were just okay. Mine was crazy. Which leads me to believe it is impossible to capture that incomparable woman. It is impossible to capture her brilliance, vulnerability, wit and elusiveness. The McPhillips will continue to host many writers who come to Montgomery, Alabama, to the house they own where Zelda lived with her famous husband that is now The Zelda & Scott Fitzgerald Museum. But no one will ever grasp that wonderful, intelligent woman. Never.
