By writing the following, I only intend to express my feelings - TopicsExpress

By writing the following, I only intend to express my feelings about an event that, in different ways, changed my perception about my surroundings. I hope I dont have any shallow reasons for writing this even at a subconscious level. Last night I got a glimpse of what barbarianism is. I live only about a kilometer away from the Constitution Ave, and so, after I found out that the police had starting attacking their own people and some people had even died, my conscience didnt allow me to stay at home to watch the prime time shows, especially when Im an MBBS student. At my first attempt, I could only reach the last plaza of Blue Area, because beyond that there were dozens of policemen who shelled tear gas at us. While at home, I had thought, out of sheer innocence, that tear gas couldnt do jack to me. There, at D-chowk though, my eyes were burning because of it and I couldnt open my eyes, while my brother felt dizzy enough to slightly lose his balance. That was the end to my heroic story as I cowardly went back home after getting a lot of calls from my family. I couldnt stay at home though, and so convinced my family to let me go to Polyclinic to try to help the patients there in whichever minor way I could. When I got there, it was quite a chaos. Our government hospitals are pathetic at dealing with emergencies. About a year ago, I had witnessed something worse at DHQ hospital, Rawalpindi. About 60-odd people came to the general emergency ward while I was there for an hour or so (The doctors there said, by about 1 am, a total of about 200 had come there), mostly because of carbon monoxide poisoning from the tear gas. In simpler English, they were gasping for air which resolved only after they were given supplemental oxygen through face masks. Others had laceration injuries from rubber bullets, and some had fractures. One came in who almost died, but with Allahs mercy, survived. About an hour later, I went to the Constitution Ave in an ambulance to give first aid to the injured there. That didnt work out well though cuz our ambulance took us from the Margalla Road, and so we ended up on the side of the Constitution Ave where the policemen were. It was impossible to get from there to the other side of the containers, which had kept the police and the protesters separate. That experience was more than horrifying. For an hour or so that I was there, waiting for things to get a little relaxed so that I could move to the other side, I witnessed about a dozen or more tear gas shells and countless rounds of rubber bullets fired onto the protesters. Ill say one thing though: Out of hundreds of policemen that were there, only a handful were sick enough to take part in this barbarianism. The rest were just sitting on the sides. When I realized that I couldnt do anything while being there, I eventually came back to the hospital, and a while after that, came back home. Ive learned a lot from this experience. This government is ruthless. Theyre sick to the core, as our some of our policemen. Human lives are cheaper than the darned PM House or the resignation of the godforsaken PM. This is what this democracy has given us. Also, from where I was, I couldnt hear Imran Khan or Tahir ul Qadri address the people even once. Perhaps we should assume that they were there amidst the rest of the protesters (and not inside their containers), bearing the effects of the tear gas and the bullets, just like everyone else, right? Theres no end to our innocence :) Ya Allah, bring us Muslims back to Your religion in a beautiful return.
