Byzantine chant folks -- help me pick out a rep list! These are the requirements for the certificate exam at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology: (i) one doxastikon (either from the Anastasimatarion or the Doxastarion), (ii) one cherubic hymn, (iii) one idiomelon for lenten Sunday Vespers by Iakovos Protopsaltis or a Slow Doxology, (iv) one verse from Bereketis Theotoke Parthene including the kratima, (v) one kalophonic heirmos, (vi) one slow kekragarion by Iakovos Protopsaltis, (vii) one Great Prokeimenon for Lent, (viii) another piece of your choice (e.g. a section from the slow Ti Ypermacho, a polyeleos triadikon, a polyeleos, etc.) Each piece must be in a different mode. You should also be prepared to discuss the theory of each piece you will be presenting (mode, systems employed, range, modulations, text-painting, etc.). Finally, you must prepare a short presentation (5-10 minutes) on a theoretical topic of your choice. So, the Cherubikon is already selected -- Gregorios Protopsaltis, Second Mode from Βου, which ties into my theoretical presentation (όμοια διφωνία). Basically, if thats on my list, theres no way anything else on my list will be any harder! Who might have other suggestions? Tasolamprou Chrisoula, Tom Nassis, Ross Ritterman, Samuel Herron, John Michael Boyer, Alex Khalil, Stelios Kontakiotis, Constantine Kokenes, Spyridon Antonopoulos (but anybody else can chime in if they want)?
