C.1890 awl punch fid carved bone with walnut handle - $89 This item is called by several names depending on who uses it. To a seamstress it is an awl or punch. To a sailor it is used to repair ropes and nets it is a fid. This is a late Victorian one. Not the usual cow bone types made in England in the 1920s that were mass produced by machine and you see so often. It measures 3 and 1/8 and has the finest patina you would want. Excellent condition, just 2 very small (shown) flakes on the walnut and a very tiny one on the tip. Actually if it didnt have anything wrong you would suspect the veracity of its age. This was a tool to be used! Please, if you are a new collector, look around. You wont find sewing tools like this. You experienced collectors will know just how rare these items are. Offered at $89 or BO Shared with South Jersey Antique and Collectibles
