This program is designed for both victims and abusers and is facilitated simultaneously in TWO SEPARATE groups. The program is designed to empower the victims, provide tools required to look at and address power and control issues. Participants will learn to identify and challenge unwanted behaviours and unhealthy beliefs such as “I deserved it for going along with the abuse”. In a 2009 Census it shows that 6% of Canadians (that is 1.4 million) over the past five years have experienced partner abuse. Goals are: * to prevent violent controlling behavior * for the abuser to accept responsibility * to break the cycle of violence by both the victim and abuser understanding their part. * to increase resiliency by providing long-term sustainable solutions in coping skills using non violent strategies, effective communication, relaxation, grounding techniques, and practice mindfulness to deal with life stressors.
