C&D AFL DIVISION 1 AC Hamilton 1 - 3 AFC Carluke Scorers; Bell, Watt, Porter. Team; Grenfell, Bell, D.Smith, Halliday, Watt, Gormill, Rennie, Holmes, Semple, Clacher, Telfer. Subs; Porter, Doyle, Ledwith(T), Slaven, MacVicar. With a good pre season under our belts, we went into this fixture full of confidence. Our opponents had a major overhaul of there squad from last season so we were goin somewhat into the unknown. After a scrappy opening 25mins it was carluke who opened the scoring when a Daz Smith long throw was flicked on for Drew Bell to slid in an knock the ball home from 2 yards. We were unlucky not to be 2 up on the stroke of half time when Alan Gormill reacted to a loose ball on the edge of the box and curled his shot just past the far top corner. HALF TIME 0-1 Hamilton started the 2nd half brighter and we didnt switch on to there formation change. when we did it was to late 1-1. The game was now end to end and the home team couldve went in front but for a fantastic reaction save from Grenfell an also when a Bell block cannoned off the post. On 70mins another long throw from Daz Smith was partially cleared to Bobby Watt who smashed a shot into the roof of the net from 12yards. The game was killed off 5mins later when some good work from Andy Semple found James Porter 18 yards out he took a touch an rifled a shot past the despairnig dive of the keeper. A hard fought and maybe fortunate 3 points. We can and will play better. But 3points is 3points no matter how you get them.
