C Grade Round 1 Ross Park Many phones calls, txts and FB posts later, I had not just 11 but 12 blokes at C Grade ready to play. Its my first real go at doing my own battling lineup and choosing when to bowl the guys and that did seem a bit daunting. I won the toss, elected to bat and walked back to do a list. We didnt seem to have much at all so i opened with Kenny Presely and Mitch Pawelski Cameron (who was straight off a plane from SA). Mitch went early and i came in a 1st drop. Not long later Kenny was gone too. Joel Orr ducked up, Fez made 5 and Harley Renzinew a fighting duck. (He did hang around a bit despite not scoring). Now we were 5/27 and in trouble. Jeffro trotted out and I told him to hang around with me. Several overs later Im gone bowled to a bloke with the name Imran Kahn (no joke) for 17. I was kicking myself for not making more runs. Jeffro wasnt phased however. With Callum and then Wade batting with him Jeffro started hitting out. By the time Wade was out for 3 Jeffro had made his 50. His first ever and didnt the boys clap him. It wasnt to last however and Jeffro holed out making 53 in the end. Our new blokes Juno and Stew saw off a few balls before Juno was out bowled and our innings closed at 10/98. A big improvment from 5/27, all thanks to Jeffro. Out we went to field. Okay test number 2 for me. Setting fields. I did my best, got the guys sorted and threw the ball to Mitch. He had a fairly tidy first over. jeffro came on from the other end and bowled a maiden. After 8 overs Mitch was 0/19 off 4 and Jeffro 0/8. Tidy stuff. Mitch was tiring a little so i gave Joel a shot with Callum at the other end. Joel was a bit rusty but Callum was right on the money. Callum ended with 2/15 off 4 overs. Kenny and Juno had a shot at the end. Juno will be a bowler to look out for as he was quicker than I thought and Ill bowl him earlier next time. (learning curve for me there as a captain). In the end Jeffro with 0/8 and Callum with 2/15 both off 4 overs were the best. Callum for his age punched well above his weight. They got the runs 2/116 off 19 overs, but I felt we werent pwned. The boys did well for the first game of the year, we just need to bat a bit longer. Thanks to all the boys for making the effort to be there and I hope to see you all at training next thursday.
