C Grade T20 Round 4 @ Head St. This day was set from the start to be a bad one for us. MyCricket had u starting at 1pm, and ASCA website at 12.30pm. We rolled up for the early start only to have Murphys law work on us and Westies didnt turn up till nearly 1pm. I won the toss and elected to bat. It was still around 12.35pm and Richo rang and wanted 3 guys from me. I was going to have 11 at this stage, but Stew Clarke pulled out sick, and so if I sent 3 we might forfeit. I asked around who would go and Redders and Canedog put their hands up. Scratch 2 of my better batters. A ton of phone calls were now made by all the guys to anyone they knew who could hold a cricket bat. We managed to get a mate of Tys there (Caleb MacDonald). Now we had 10 men and we walked out to attend the minutes silence for Hushesy. I asked Marcus (Wests captain) if he would like to say a few words. he declined. I then took it upon myself to say something to celebrate the life of the great cricketer we had just lost. Having not prepared anything, I stumbled through it like a nervous youth talking to his girlfriends dad for the first time. That done we bowed our heads for a minutes silence. Kenny and Jeffro opened again and it all went to poo straight away. Jeffro was gone caught off Noonans bowling for 4. I was next and while blocking my 4th ball just trying to get my eye in I nicked the fattest inside edge and it went straight into the keepers gloves. I got my second duck in a row. Ty tried to bat himself in and hold up the innings but on just 10 as he looked like he was getting going he was bowled by a good ball. Kenny went next also bowled (but by Donny this time) for 6 and we were in deep cow manure. Tom Junod got caught behind and went for a golden duck (I think it was anyway) and Rovers tettered on the brink of a full on collapse at 5 for just 25 in only the 6th over. A mini stand between Joel and Gordie took our score to 40 before the next wicket fell. Joel brushed off his bad form with the bat to hit his first 6 for the club, and combined with a lovely 4 walked off with a score of 10. Caleb went for a duck swinging madly. Gordie was next to go who had been hanging around as everyone else fell around him. He only made 3 but held up his end for quite a while. Bruce fresh from his training with the A Graders on Tues night looked great and technical for the first few shots he played. He smashed a lovely 4 and as I stiood at central umpire. I thought I might have to bat him up the order next week with form like that. The very next ball he lifted his head and skyed one to gully who took an easy catch. So much for that. Rovers Innings ended at 9/44 off 12 overs. Fielding with 10 men is always a challange. Gordie opened the bowling and only let 3 go in his first over. I copped a ball right into the top of my right thumb and it re injured it from last week. It hurt like a mofo and I left the field to put ice on it. Ty took the gloves over and I gave Jeffro temporary captaincy. We were down to 9 men. After 3 or so overs I came back on and slotted into a floating gully, promptly taking a catch off Jeffros bowling. I almost had a collision with Caleb as I was watching the ball and so was he and we nearly smashed into each other. Lucky for us we missed and I bagged the catch. Wade dropped one in the out field that he probably should have held but then made up for it later taking a blinder at about 3rd slip that cannoned into him from Junods bowling. Jeffro at this time was still captaining despite the fact i had been back for 2 overs and asked if i wanted it back. I laughed and said of course. Kenny tried to stop one on the boundary at 3rd man. He got his foot to dig into the ground shoe how that flipped him over (it looked spectacular) and he ended up in a heap on the rope and the ball trickled over behind him for 4. When he wasnt getting up after a few seconds we ran over to him to see what was wrong. His left leg was numb but with help he got to his feet and hobbled off to put ice on his knee (see photo below). Back down to 9 players again. Westies made our total in the 9th over. 3/48. Just as we were walking off the field light rain started to fall. It was an all round shite day smothered in cow manure. Again we bowled and fielded well. Especially considering we did it with 10 men and for 1/2 of their innings only 9. It was a very poor batting effort from the whole team that let us down. Im starting to wonder if its me! Stuie Scorebook Blanch
