C&H Chairman John Hempelmann testified today before the Board of the Puget Sound Regional Council in support of a Regional Compact to support Transit Oriented Development. One of two citizens invited by the Board, Hempelmann represented private sector developers, investors and property owners. He also spoke on behalf of the Northwest District Council of the Urban Land Institute. Hempelmann said the Regional Compact had been developed over the last two years by working with hundreds of citizens, municipalities, non-profit advocates, developers and transit agencies to create an agreement on the principles that should support different types of TOD all over the region. Hempelmann said the Compact would help the private sector invest and develop in walkable communities around transit centers, especially the dozens of light rail stations being constructed by Sound Transit.
