C. S. Lewis has been quoted as saying, God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” While I admit I am no theologian, Ive thought about that statement and find that I have a different perspective. Jacob has this little toy dog that plays lullabies. Unlike many other toys, this one actually has a soft and a loud setting instead of just LOUD. During the daytime when everyone is busy and noisy, I cant hear his toy if it is on the soft setting unless I put it right up to my ear. The crazy thing is that at night if Jacob rolls over and sets the music off, it fills the whole house! It is still the same volume as during the day. The difference is that everything is quiet and still. I personally do not think that God has been shouting at me during my pain. I think that I am finally listening! Sometimes it takes illness, death, or something painful for us to ignore the things that constantly scream for our attention and hear the voice that has been speaking clearly to us all along. I find that I prefer this quote, Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
