C&S and Regional Non-Profit Bring Innovative Leadership Program to Symonds Elementary and Keene High School C&S Wholesale Grocers, an American wholesale distributor of food and grocery store items headquartered in Keene, NH and High 5 Adventure Learning Center, a non-profit organization headquartered in Brattleboro, VT have partnered to bring an innovative, leadership program to Keene High School and 5th Graders at Symonds Elementary. Edge of Leadership teaches young people the skills to work together to identify and provide solutions for the challenges facing them in their schools and communities. High 5 staff visited the Symonds School 5th grade classrooms throughout the school year, and students came to High 5’s facility in Brattleboro to learn and practice creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration, skills identified as most necessary for a productive and fulfilling life in the 21st Century. The High School program is implemented throughout the school year and into the summer, with participants attending a leadership retreat at High 5’s Brattleboro facility, where they participate in adventure education programming with students from other Edge of Leadership sites throughout the Northeast. This year Keene High School students chose to focus on improving student-teacher communication, and teachers were personally invited by students to participate. According to High 5 Executive Director Jim Grout, “We’ve been working with C&S staff for a long time, and they realized the value of investing in our work with youth to help prepare today’s students to be the workforce -- and the leadership -- of our future.” Edge of Leadership, developed by High 5 Adventure, Inc. has been implemented in schools and agencies across the Northeast for the past five years. Funding from C&S Wholesale Grocers supports the implementation in schools and agencies in the Keene, NH and Brattleboro geographies.
