C@%%## The throbbing of my head held me a prisoner to immobility. Any slight movement felt like my cross to bear. I am cemented to my couch in spread eagle position, hoping that the four pills I gulped work. The pain came so suddenly like an assailant in the night; without warning of its torturous intent. I moan and groan as my stomach did somersaults liked a gymnast on the balance beam. What did I do to deserve such a wretched result at the end of a very long day? I replayed events in my clouded mind to get some insight as to where I went wrong. I rose with the sun and saw my family sent off to their scheduled affairs. My son, although grumpy, was satisfied with a hot breakfast spread and a pat on the head. My husband was escorted to his steed with a kiss and a smile as I guarded the entrance to his kingdom. My daughter, still sleepy on the couch, sought the comfort of her mother’s loving arms. So where did I go wrong? I’d lace up my sneakers and inventoried my reflection as I migrated to the track to run. For on this summer break I must keep these glorious hips and thighs in line. I then prepared meals and cleaned our sacred chamber so that my family, on their return, can experience tranquility. I consumed all of the right foods and restrained that dog of my stomach to ensure the slimming process begins. I performed domesticated tasks of the least bit importance creating a satisfaction of being the perfect specimen. I even congregated with neighborhood moms caravanning to retrieve our youngsters from their day of learning. So tell me, where did I go wrong? Then it hit me! Like a calculated upper cut of a professional boxer gunning for the feel of the belt. Like a sumo wrestler slamming into his opponent; like a runaway train about to derail. Somewhere in recess of my mind, I heard a still small voice. At first it was difficult to decipher its gentle whispers…c@%%##! What? …CO%%##. Huh? …COFF##. Eh? …COFFEE. Dagnabit! I forgot to drink my morning coffee. All rights reserved, 2013 copyrighted KKelman
