C and A went to a concert last night in the Whale Coast Hotel, Hermanus to see and hear Anri Coza, a SA keyboard/singer/songwriter for about 75 admirers, mostly Afrikaans. Anri describes her songs as POPNOIR. I dont know what that means. However the performance was polished, professional, the lyrics, poetic and I guess meaningful, the accompaniment was faultless with excellent modulations and her voice is powerful for such a wee lass. She sang 13 of her own songs and 1 written by an Italian/Scot Paolo Nutini who has over a million likes to our 81! I think his song was Iron Sky not sure. The venue is not the best since the artist is only visible by the front couple of rows but an excellent grand piano and first class sound by a Sandbaai company. My favorite songs were Nobody Knows and Bravery however the program of songs was wide and diverse, some with a spiritual fervor, others romantic, melancholy and yet again others that were rhythmical and pleasing. She sang a Sad Song which in fact was happy. All her songs conveyed a message. She has a warm personality and was deeply moved at the start as it was a homecoming for her from Germany where she has been performing for the past 10 years. She finished the evening with an Afrikaans song much to the delight of the audience.
