C h a r l e s K I n g s l e y C h a r l e s K I n g s l e y, born in 1 8 1 9 in the south-west of England, was the son of a cleric; studied at Cambridge, took orders, and passed the great part of his life as A n g l I c a n minister in the rural parish of Eversley, in H a m p s h I r e. He formed with M a u r I c e, L u d l o w, etc,. a group of t h e o r I s t s whose study was s o c I a l progress and who became known as C h r I s t I a n S o c I a l I s t s; took part in the c r u s a d e for better s a n I t a t I o n, 1848-51, and in the working men’s co-operative movement. He was appointed to a professorship of history at Cambridge, 1860-69. He died in 1 8 7 5.
